Amy Sacks, 27, is the Executive Director of THE PIXIE PROJECT, an animal rescue and adoption nonprofit in Portland, Oregon.

Amy attended the University of Iowa, during which time she was named the Humane Society Volunteer of the Year for her work with a mobile veterinary clinic in rural Iowa and with homeless youth and their companion animals.

After graduating from college in 2002 with a degree in French and Spanish, Amy returned to Portland to establish THE PIXIE PROJECT. The mission of the organization is to provide support for local shelters through transitional foster families and adoption services. Additionally, Amy provided the leadership which launched a multi service collaboration providing low income spay and neuter services in the city.

During the difficult economy of the last few years, Amy became a resource for many families faced with the need to find temporary or permanent homes for their beloved pets.

Amy has spoken at many conferences and events and in 2009 she was the recipient of a Skidmore Prize given annually to young Portlanders engaged in non-profit work.

Amy’s passionate and effective work on behalf of homeless animals has been recognized nationwide and she has been the subject of stories on the Today Show and CNN.
