Transportation to the Hotel

Airports

Three major airports serve the San Francisco Bay Area, including San Francisco International (SFO), San Jose Mineta International (SJC), and Oakland International (OAK). We suggest comparing fares to all three airports, as there can be significant differences, even for the same airline.

Stanford is roughly equidistant from the San Francisco and San Jose airports. Although San Francisco is the largest of the three area airports and offers the most airlines and flights, some visitors find that San Jose’s smaller size makes it a somewhat more convenient alternative, especially for domestic flights.

Airport Shuttles

There are a number of shuttle services available from SFO or SJO Airports to get you to Palo Alto. Super Shuttle (www.supershuttle.com) can be booked online for shared or direct rides to specific locations. Another option for reserved shuttle service from San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland airports to Palo Alto is Palo Alto Airporter:
http://www.paloaltoairporter.webhomy.com/.
For additional information about shuttles from SFO Airport, visit this link: http://www.flysfo.com/to-from/sb/shared-ride-vans. There is also an extensive list of shuttles available on the SJO Airport website at this link.

Ground Transportation

We have arranged a shuttle to and from campus, which will pick people up from The Stanford Park Hotel and the Sheraton Palo Alto Hotel. The shuttle will run the mornings of Saturday and Sunday, October 26-27 as well as Saturday evening after the banquet dinner and Sunday afternoon after the conference concludes. Click here to view the shuttle schedule and a map of the campus pick up and drop off location.

The Stanford Guest House offers a free 10-passenger shuttle, which will take guests to campus or downtown Palo Alto locations of their choice. The shuttle typically runs once per hour and we have reserved some spaces for our attendees on these shuttles during the conference weekend. The shuttle will also pick attendees up after the banquet dinner at the Stanford Faculty Club for return shuttle service to the hotel. Stanford University’s complimentary Marguerite Shuttle also stops in front of the hotel approximately every 20 minutes from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Public Transportation

Whether you are arriving by plane or traveling from elsewhere in the San Francisco Bay Area, it is possible to reach Stanford by public transportation. NOTE: Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is currently on strike. Although the strike may be over by the conference, please have a back-up plan for transportation just in case!

The local transit hub for bus and train services at Stanford is the Palo Alto Caltrain Station, located near the main entrance to campus near the intersections of Palm Drive, University Avenue, and El Camino Real. A one-way trip from San Francisco takes approximately one hour and costs about $5.75; a one-way trip from San Jose takes approximately 40 minutes and costs about $4.00. Caltrain also connects with stations and shuttles serving the San Francisco and San Jose International Airports.

The Stanford Marguerite Shuttle, the University’s free shuttle bus, operates several routes (Monday through Friday), most of which provide service from the Caltrain Station to multiple campus locations.

A set of basic directions to Stanford for travelers using public transportation is available on Stanford’s Bay Area Transit webpage.
