Highlights & Reflections

Perspectives on Domestic and Captive Animals examined the legal, ethical, and policy issues affecting animals in human care, including companion animals, research subjects, and animals held in captivity.

The conference addressed animal litigation, animal welfare and cruelty laws, bioethics in research, and evolving understandings of animal–human relationships. Sessions also explored the legal treatment of animals in zoos and aquariums and emerging discussions around legal rights for chimpanzees and other nonhuman animals.
