Carrie Apfel is the deputy managing attorney of the Sustainable Food and Farming Program at Earthjustice, developing legal strategies to promote a safe, just, and climate-friendly food system. Some of Carrie’s recent work has focused on increasing transparency into the industrial agricultural system, fighting against climate greenwashing by beef producers, and challenging the false climate solutions of crop-based biofuels and manure biogas. Prior to joining Earthjustice, Carrie was a partner at Jenner & Block. There, she worked on a class action on behalf of Native American farmers and ranchers challenging discrimination in USDA’s farm loan program; the case obtained a $760 million settlement. Carrie clerked on the Fourth Circuit, and graduated from University of Virginia Law School and Duke University, both with many honors.
